"Big Data Training School for Life Sciences" in Uppsala, Sweden.

Mr Tayo Olagunju, a member of  UIBG and a research fellow at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA  attended  the "Big Data Training School for Life Sciences" organized by the EMBnet and the COST Action CHARME (Harmonising standardisation strategies to increase efficiency and competitiveness of European life-science research) which held  in Uppsala, Sweden last month - 18th to 22th September, 2017. The workshop  held at the Ultuna campus of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU.

The course featured the topics - Introduction to Big Data,BIG Data Cloud solutions in Life Sciences, Distributed storage and computing with Hops Hadoop,Large scale data-processing with Apache Spark,Machine learning in Spark,Spark SQL,Metabolomics,Image analysis. The two last two days focused on lectures to highlight new trends in the Big Data field. 

The research group will be organizing a workshop soon to harness the knowlege and experience gained from this international conference.
